Celebrating Go Skateboarding Day with Danny Way
Go Skateboarding Day is an opportunity for the global skate community to come together and celebrate the past, present, and future of skateboarding and the role it continues to play in each of our lives. To kick it off, we connected with DC Shoes iconic team rider, Danny Way, to reflect on DC’s role in the evolution of the skate industry. (Photos: Blabac)

Q: What do you think first inspired DC Shoes to build a brand around skateboarding?
DW: DC was created around the principal of pushing new design and technology into skate footwear, and to support the needs of the always-evolving and progressive endemic skate culture.
Q: It’s true that DC Shoes was built with evolution in mind - What do you think has allowed the brand to evolve and stay relevant/exciting to the skate community? And what do you think sets DC Shoes apart from competitors in the industry?
DW: DC has continued to prove that innovation needs to be at the forefront of the brand conscious. The brand has always had relevant, innovative talent on the boards married with the most cutting edge technology and designs – it’s the ultimate recipe. As for setting it apart, DC’s primary focus since the beginning has been supporting its athletes and giving them the resources and tools necessary to take their talent and sport to the next level.

Q: For you, what is it that sets skateboarding apart from other sports?
DW: Skateboarding still offers the most creativity, possibility, and personality than any sport I’ve seen throughout the world.
Q: Well put. Lastly, what role has DC played in your career?
DW: DC has been the backbone of almost every major accomplishment I have achieved throughout my career.

It’s been our pleasure to create innovative products that have facilitated Danny’s accomplishments along with the accomplishments of so many of you skaters out there.
